SAVE OUR CHILDREN FROM hygiene poverty

This project is addressing the increasing hygiene poverty in rural communities of KwaZulu Natal and is aimed at establishing  sustainable hygiene banks for children in vulnerable communities. Hygiene practices focused on the prevention of disease through the use of washing, bathing and cleaning as some of the inputs of wellbeing.

The spiraling cost of living has left many vulnerable parents unable to afford essential hygiene products for their children.  Hygiene poverty can have a long lasting emotional impact on children such as low self esteem, anxiety, disengagement and poor concentration.

Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products like bath soap, deodorant, hair shampoo, body lotion, sanitary towels, toothbrush, tooth paste, toilet paper, hairbrush, detergent etc. Our goal is promoting  dignity and wellbeing among children in rural communities targeting 20 000 children.

women in social enterprise - pork production

This project is focused on establishing rural community facilities to catalyze growth of other actors in catchment areas. In this model women act not only as consumers but as producers and suppliers of agricultural commodities. The facility provides vocational training to women and the youth, technology transfer, technical support and financial support.

Our model of approach demonstrates capabilities for "future food" that can support sustainable production patterns respecting the health of planetary boundaries.

The pork production facility is located in Tylors Halt, uMgungundlovu District, KwaZulu Natal.

SOYBEAN AND CASsAVA UTILIzATION

The project seek to promote household utilization of soybean, giving more scope to value addition. Soybean is a crop of choice for dietary proteins. Soybean is the crop of choice for livestock feedlots and animal feed.

The model provide technical support and training to rural women and youth on processing and preservation of soybean and cassava (tapioca). We have developed soybean derived products such as tofu (soy cheese) and tapioca-soy porridge.

Currently, the project is building engagement with rural agricultural households for the production of grain soybean and cassava.

SOCIAL justice EXTENTION services

Our  implementation framework is participatory integrated systems  approach of legal response, livelihood response and health response. In our work, legal response is significant component of development addressing injustice, inequalities, violence and discrimination to bring about inclusive social change, including the right to food, economic, social and cultural rights,  children's rights, reproductive and sexual health rights for women and adolescent girls.

The project supports socially excluded communities to access their legal entitlements through advocacy initiatives including  raising awareness through education and training, outreach clinics, public information campaign,  healing & dialogues.

We are currently implementing the social justice extension services in various communities in KwaZulu Natal designed to enable equal access to innovations and capacity development.
